Definition

  • A Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) is a compact sequence of characters that identifies an abstract or physical resource. (RFC 3986).

Like most other fundamental Internet specifications, resources identifiers are publishes as RFCs.

  • In practical terms, URIs are either URLs or URNs (read these articles for now).
