An &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;instructional curriculum map&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (ICM) is an [[instructional design method]] developed by Gagné et al. (this needs verification) to plan the structure of a large learning module, i.e. a course.&lt;br /&gt;

; Course&lt;br /&gt;
* At course general we define general objectives to reach in terms of a &amp;#039;&amp;#039;prior&amp;#039;&amp;#039; needs analysis&lt;br /&gt;
* A course is divided into units&lt;br /&gt;
; Unit&lt;br /&gt;
* Each unit is firstly designed in terms of a rather general goal to attain (enabling objective)&lt;br /&gt;
* Then, activities (teacher, learner) are defined in terms of subgoals to reach. Some also may rely on other input (e.g. previous knowledge, other courses)&lt;br /&gt;
* Each subgoal becomes a sub-unit if necessary&lt;br /&gt;

== Instructional design methods and models that include ICMs ==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Most [[Instructional systems design]]s, e.g. Dick and Carey&amp;#039;s [[Systematic Design of Instruction]]&lt;br /&gt;
* [[MISA]], is a more complex model that pushes all analysis steps very far.&lt;br /&gt;
* Typical [[lesson planning]] methods also include some form of ICM.&lt;br /&gt;
